The Illinois High School Basketball Newsletter
Recruiting, commitments, transfers, coaching news, scores, stories and more about Illinois high school basketball.
High school sports coverage has dwindled in recent history. The decline of print media has taken with it many writing jobs covering prep sports. Though basketball is one of the two most popular of those sports, with football, even its coverage has been affected. That’s why I started this newsletter: to help tell some of the stories that have fallen through the cracks, and to shed more light on the stories that are still being written.
My name is Jakub Rudnik, and I’ve been covering high school sports in the Chicago area since 2013. Less than five years ago, I wrote for a paper with nearly a half dozen prep editors. Their jobs are all gone. Currently, the Sun-Times is the only major outlet that writes about CPS sports — one of the biggest prep organizations in the country.
This newsletter is just one small way to rectify that.
My experience is in Chicago and its suburbs, but I want to tell and share stories from across Illinois. Anything related to high school basketball: scores, coaching hires, recruiting, etc., I’ll include it.
The newsletter will come once a week, for free. The only possible change will be creating a daily email during the season, as news and stories come in more frequently.
Please don’t hesitate to reach out to me: @jakubrudnik on Twitter and rudnik.jakub@gmail.com. And if you know someone who’d like the newsletter, please share!
